Feature & Follow (11)

Feature & Follow is a meme hosted by Alison Can Read and Parajunkee

Q: What blogger inspires you? It can be any kind, it doesn't have to be a book blog.

There are lots of blogs that inspire me most are fashion or books as they are my two main passions. Lately I haven't really been browsing a lot of blogs and kind of neglected my own:( but I will try harder from now on.

Fashion- The fashion blogs I most admire are a range of different fashions the first is Fashion Train because Becca is amazing and her clothes are just lush check her out! The next one is totally different for vintage I will always go To The Briar Rose she creates some of her own stuff which makes her original, & the last is one Is Karlas Closet I could never wear her clothes but she is stunning and her clothes make me gasp.

Books- One of my favourite book blogs has to be The Book To My Heart the reviews are amazing enough said. & Obvs Alison Can Read I love Manga mondays:).

Q: Summer Reading. What was your favorite book that you were REQUIRED to read when you were in school?

This wasn't very hard as I don't really like books I've read in school, as they have to be quite easy so everyone can understand which can get annoying as you have to read tiny books around 100 pages with simple and boring plots. In fact their is only one book that I have loved reading. It was for English and we all had to read The London Eye Mystery, I've read this before so I was really excited to be reading it again as it was one of my favourites. To sum it up it's like a young Sherlock Holmes, definitely a great read in school and out!

My Book Boyfriend (4)

My Book Boyfriend is a Meme hosted by The Unread Reader

This time this choice wasn't too hard as the obvious choice out of the books I've read recently is Ray Singh from The Lovely Bones, I don't know what it is about Ray but the moment I started reading about him. His connection to Susie is amazing and so sweet and thoughtful he never stops thinking about her long after her death.

Stats
  • Black wavy hair.
  • Eyes the colour of chocolate.
  • Dark tanned skin.
  • Soft and gently spoken.
  • Smart.
  • Kind and thoughtful.
  • Ever loving to Susie.
I admire Ray for a lot of reasons, for coping with Susie's death to befriending Ruth the strange girl who see's things no-one does. Ultimatley Ray Singh was Susie's first crush, first kiss and first love. When Susie died they were just getting to know each other and after she died they both wished for more. When Ruth and Susie swap bodies so Susie can encounter Ray for the last time is how Susie finally sets Ray free.

My Favourite scene between Ray and Susie has got to be near the end when Ray is older, (This contains spoilers!) Ruth and Susie swap bodies. As soon as Ray sees her he knows its not Ruth anymore then they make up for all the lost time together, all the emotion and sadness that this is their last meeting before Susie moves on.

Here are some of my favourite quotes from Ray:

' You are beautiful, Susie Salmon.' - This is what any girl wants to hear and the way he says it paints a picture.

'If I had but an hour of love, If that be all that is given me, An hour of love upon this earth, I would give my love to thee.'

P.S As stated by Missie at the Unread Reader we can't use pictures anymore due to copyright reasons. I put forward the idea of still using images to portray the book boyfriend but at the bottom or underneath the pictures the source and website from where they come from.

The Lovely Bones Review

My name was Salmon, like the fish; first name, Susie. I was fourteen when I was murdered on December 6, 1973. My murderer was a man from our neighbourhood. My mother liked his border flowers, and my farther talked to him once about fertiliser.
I knew he was going to kill me. I did not realise then that I was an animal already dying.

My mum first suggested this book to me and I took it with an open mind but with a hint of caution because books I've read that she's read in the past I haven't understood a word of! But this was different, Alice Sebold writes in a style that is understandable for all ages if it wasn't for the adult content anyone could read this.
he The Lovely Bones follows 14 year old Susie as she sees the world now she's dead, watching as her family try to cope with her death. And waiting for her murderer to come to justice, seeing her friends, family grow up something she never did and trying to come to grips with her death.

This book. was. amazing. It completely and easily channelled a fourteen year old views into words. I felt how Susie felt and was excited to see her murderer brought down. All of Susie feelings were thoughtful and just it's hard to explain how you interpret and read Susie's emotions I really admire Susie for feeling no anger that she didn't get to live her life this is what makes Susie so special that she accepts things.

In the book I felt sorry for a lot of people Susie's family, friends, Ray Singh (her almost-boyfriend) but the two main people were Susie and Ruth. Now Ruth is a very different character when Susie was alive they were friends Susie was probably her only friend Ruth lived on the outside a drawer, unique. But when Susie dies she's the one person she touches on her way up forever changed Ruth as she grows up goes about trying to discover the dead and their purpose.

The Lovely Bones has put a lot of thoughts and ideas into my head one especially the love of a farther how Susie's was so committed same couldn't be said for her mother who upset me towards the end of the book. One of my favourite characters had to be Lindsey even as she love her sister she tried to move on to build a life for herself and stay strong for her family. Soon I hope to watch the film and see if it competes with the book!

Q: Jumping Genres: Ever pick up a book from a genre you usually don't like and LOVE it? Tell us about it and why you picked it up in the first place.

A: To be fair this never really happens to me, nowadays I usually stick to a particular genre of books romance  & urban fantasy. Because you get used to a certain genre and because it's just easier I keep reading them. But finally I've strayed away just started reading Inkspell (fantasy) and so far it's doing well!

Question
Happy Father's Day! Who is the best dad character in a book and why?

I have to say I definitely found this question one of the hardest so far as most of the books I've read don't have memorable dad's in or if they do they're not very nice, so after much thought it has to be Geoffrey Beck or more commonly known as Beck. I know he wasn't Sam's real dad but he gives the most amazing advice and he loves Sam more than anything and is just a kind, sweet gentle guy.

Still On My Mind (1)

Still On My Mind is a Meme hosted by Ya-Aholic.

Usually a lot of books stay on my mind long after I've read them but it was very hard to choose just one that stood out from the rest of them. One that I can remember everything that happened in the book and most of the amazing descriptions and for that it had to be Ultraviolet....

Ultraviolet follows the story of 15 year old Alison who gets put in a mental institute for supposed causing the death of a girl. With mixed up emotions and un answered questions how will she ever understand what truly happened that day, did she really kill her? Or is it something else an un answered condition?

One of my favourite things about this book are the descriptions, because Alison has a special condition Synaesthesia it causes her to taste sounds which results in beautiful, amazing passages of words. The way Alison thinks of things in her mind while trying to get to grips with everything I really admire her as a character when she knows things but everyone else thinks your crazy...

Forever By Maggie Stiefvater

Hunger that could never be filled welled up inside me as my mind snatched at thoughts that didn't seem to fit inside my head. My howling would set off the others, and together we'd sing and warn others of our presence and cry for any members of the pack that weren't there.
I kept waiting for him...

Forever. There are no words to describe the book or the title, the title is a thought in itself the word Forever pierces your heart, forever is always that's the relationship that describes Sam & Grace their love is the word Forever. The book shows that through and through how love can battle everything and how they enjoy the small things in life.

The story follows the four main characters from Linger Grace, Sam, Isabel and Cole as they battle through new changes. When they find out the packs in danger of being wiped out completely they need help and fast can they get old friends to help?

I loved Shiver and I loved Forever I think Linger was a book that needs to be worked on as I feel it was by far the worse of the 3 and didn't hold me captivated like the others did. This book held me with love, hope, fear and a surprising ending..

Q: Activity! Dreamcast your current read.

The book I'm reading at the moment is (well I'm reading a lot of books at the moment!) Forever now I enjoyed Shiver so much I could have burst, Linger... Well let's say not the best but Forever is hyping up to be good! So I will Dreamcast the main characters which are Grace, Sam, Cole & Isabel those are some of the only people in the book so far...

Grace:
As Elle Fanning I love how she is depicted here with her tumbling blonde hair and faraway looks like I imagine Grace to be.
Sam:

I think Aaron Johnson is the most perfect Sam you could ever ask for he looks king sweet and most of all gentle! I'm In love!

Isabel:

I have no idea which celebrity this is  but I know she is perfect! She is soft but hard at the same time fragile like Isabel.

Cole:

For Cole definitely Chris Zylka because he fits the hard, strong band member, I always imagined Cole bald...

Q: Summer Break is upon us! What would be the perfect vacation spot for you to catch up on your reading & relax?

A:  Probably my favourite vacation spot would be somewhere relaxing where I can sit in the sun and just read...  I know I'm boring! Maybe somewhere like Tribute Book Mama said Hawaii or the Bahamas or somewhere baking next to the sea because the sea is one of my favourite things in the world! Normally I would have said New York City for my dream destination but I'm going there next year!(Dream coming true!).

Looking For Alaska Review

Before I got here, I thought for a long time that the way out of the labyrinth was to pretend that it did not exist, to build a small, self-sufficient world in a back corner of the endless maze and to pretend that I was not lost. And then I screwed up and the Colonel screwed up and Takumi screwed up and she slipped through our fingers. And there's no sugar-coating it: she deserved better friends...

No doubt one of the best books I've read in a long time. And I never usually say that! It captured Perfectly a teenage boys life, as a girl I wouldn't know anything about that! But mostly when authors & film makers try to interpret a teens life it goes horribly wrong but not in this novel. It explores the heart stopping feeling of first love and finding a girl so beautifully...

Miles is searching for his Great Perhaps at the moment he's stuck un-popular a loser, until he moves to boarding school where he meets the Colonel, Takumi and Alaska Young the most beautiful girl he has ever seen? But does she love him back, and how will the big event affect them all...

I won't spoil it for everything but the book counts down the days to an event and event so heart breaking and shattering I almost cried... almost! So yeah this book is defitnley worth the read. I still can't  believe the philosphy aspect; How will you ever get out of this labyrinth of suffering? Best quote ever...

Q: Have you had a character that disappointed you? One that you fell in love with and then “broke up” with later on in either the series or a stand-alone book? Tell us about him or her.

I would have to say in my most honest opinion Daniel Grigori, I bet everyone gasps and says "NONONONONONONONONO!" And if I had read that when I had only read Fallen I would have said that! But I feel in Torment Daniel changes from this loving amazing guy to touchy never telling her anything, they have arguments and he is being an absolute idiot! I even started to like this other guy more, aswell I relaised with Luce how he ruined the lives of people she loved in her past lives just because he deiceded to fall in love with her I felt it was so unfair! At the moment I haven't read Passion so I don't know if he changes in that! I hope he does!

Carrie Review

The girls giggled and Carrie looked up, her eyes slow and dazed from the hear and the steady, pounding roar of the water. "Ohuh?" It wasn't until she stepped out they saw the blood on her leg...

I have to say if I read that extract I would have been drawn straight in... But I'm not saying it wasn't a good book it was. But it's not my cup of tea :) and usually I like horrors but I wouldn't put this as a horror more a physiological book. It was actually quite sad especially at the end... I still don't understand how people can be so cruel to her? Is there no compassion!?

Carrie White was thought an ordinary girl, plain, boring, nothing special. She was always the slow one, the one that always got picked on. Until one night, a night when the joke is on them. Prom night is supposed to be a special night people might just dyeing to go...

So their isn't a lot more to say about the book! I just feel sorry for Carrie as her mothers a religious physco and she Carrie was trying to change..

Torment Review

Daniel stared out at the bay. His eyes were as gray as the thick fog enveloping the Sausalito shoreline, as the choppy water lapping the pebble beach beneath his feet. There was no violet to his eyes now at all; he could feel it. She was too far away...

I just finished Torment and I want to run all the way to my nearest book store which is around 20 miles away and buy Passion! Torment was that good, I feel it was even better than Fallen which I found a bit slow going...

Luce arrives in California at Shoreline a school for gifted Nephilliam kids the offspring of fallen angels and humans. Luce knows she's at Shoreline for a reason, but what? How can she figure out her past, maybe the mysterious shadows that Luce has always been afraid of could they hold all the answers she needs? And are her and Daniel meant to be together or is their someone else...

Sounds good right! Well theirs more to it than meets the eye.. Now I'll try not to put spoilers in but If you haven't read this book read these bits with caution...
The other guy that's innuendod isn't Cam it's another boy Luce meet at Shoreline and to be perfectly honest I think Luce is better off with him because near the middle of the book Luce discovers all the hurt that Daniel has caused her family in past lives.

One of my favourite characters in this is probably Shelby one of Luce's new friends as she helps Luce on her quest to find out more about herself and how she meet Daniel. One of the best parts of this book is the ending... So go read it! :)

My Book Hero Crush (1)

This is my first meme! Yay and I will do this every Saturday... The girl I've chosen is definitely one of the most well-known girls ever to walk the world. She has all the qualities to be a role model strong, fierce, and caring it is the one and only Zoey Redbird!

Zoey Redbird

Q: Fight! Fight! If you could have two fictional characters battle it out (preferably from books), who would they be and who do you think would win?

I think I would choose Stevie Rae Johnson  from The House Of Night because she is one of my favourite characters and really touched my heart as soon as I read her and besides her power is amazing she can control the earth and she will fight... Arriane Alter a fallen angel from the series Fallen Arriane struck me at first as a bit of a spoilt brat who thinks she knows everything but when you get to know her you realise she is actually quite nice and interesting her powers are well she's a fallen angel! and has wings!
